Fashion Model Engaged To Prince Rahim Aga Khan

Kendra Spears already lives a life of glitz and glamour as fashion royalty, being one of the top models for the likes of Chanel and Louis Vuitton, but she’s about to get a whole new glamorous take on life as a princess.

Spears, a 24-year-old native of Seattle, Wash., is engaged to Prince Rahim Aga Khan, the eldest son of Aga Khan IV, the current Imam of Shia Ismaili Muslims.

It is unclear exactly how long the model and the 42-year-old prince have been dating, but a Friday press release from the Aga Khan Development Network announced the two are happily engaged. Photos accompanying the press release showed the couple smiling together outside, with her engagement ring on full display.

There’s no word details of the ceremony, but the news blast said the two would be “married in a Muslim ceremony” and the date has yet to be set.

"Thank you all for the kind tweets! We're very excited!" the model tweeted on Friday after the announcement circulated.

Spears, who was discovered in 2008 after winning a Ford Models competition, has walked most recently in the Fall 2013 shows for Louis Vuitton, Anthony Vaccarello, Jonathan Saunders, Marc Jacobs, DSquared2, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi and Chanel, to name a few. She’s also appeared in top fashion magazines like Elle and Vogue as well as international campaigns for Calvin Klein and Diane von Furstenberg. The Telegraph pointed out that the brunette beauty is nicknamed the “mini Cindy Crawford” because of a small mole on her upper lip resembling the fashion model icon.

Spears is not the only model to marry into this royal family, either; Prince Rahim Aga Khan’s father married British model Sarah ‘Sally’ Croker-Poole and his grandfather was married to iconic actress Rita Hayworth. Spears is likely to adopt an Islamic name and convert to the religion, The Telegraph reported, when she marries the Prince.

Victoria's Secret fashion show brings out celebs, top models

Rihanna rocked lingerie at Wednesday night's Victoria's Secret fashion show in New York, providing the highlight of the live-music soundtrack and holding her own on the catwalk with some of the world's top models.

And those models even had props, including Adriana Lima's ringmaster wand, Doutzen Kroes' body cage and several pairs of the oversized wings that the retailer has made its signature. It would be a close contest who got the biggest wings: Toni Garrn's giant poppy pair or Miranda Kerr's swan-style feathered pouf. Only Lily Aldridge could boast star-spangled wings that shot out silver sparkles.

Alessandra Ambrosio's orchid-petal wings might have lacked a little grandeur, but she made up for it with a $2.5 million jeweled "floral fantasy bra."

Still, wearing a sheer pink mini that gave glimpses of her bra, Rihanna sang "Fresh Out the Runway" at the end of the corset-and-garter parade and she was the one to grab the audience's biggest applause.

The fashion show has become a pre-holiday season tradition for the retailer. CBS will turn it into a one-hour special, which also had performances from Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars, to be shown on Dec. 4.

Lima said she loved opening the show in the ringmaster costume. "The atmosphere of the Victoria's Secret fashion show is electric," she said. "It's so much fun to be able to interact with the audience! What other show will you see Rihanna, Justin Beiber and Bruno Mars on the runway with angels?"

This year's event had a slight twist. It started with an announcer noting that Victoria's Secret and CBS had each made a donation to relief efforts for Superstorm Sandy, and a thank you to the National Guard members who are based out of the Lexington Avenue Armory that has for years been home to the show.

Mostly, though, models are encouraged to smile, ham it up and show off the extra time at the gym that most admit to in the weeks beforehand. "It's highly televised, and you take that into consideration," said model Joan Smalls ahead of the show. "This is kind of not the same as other runways. You have to prepare your body: No. 1 is the wings are heavy, and No. 2 is you have to be comfortable with your body because the camera will pick up on it if you're not comfortable and confident."

There's an emphasis on glitz, skin and dramatic production here, not wearable undergarment trends for typical Victoria's Secret shoppers. It was divided into six sections: Circus, complete with acrobats, contortionists and a sword eater; Dangerous Liaisons; Pink Is Us; Silver Screen Angels; Angels in Bloom; and Calendar Girls, which allowed Bruno Mars to serenade a model for each month of the year.

For his first song, "Beauty and the Beat," Bieber, wearing low-slung white pants and a white leather studded vest, sat alone with his guitarist in the mellowest part of the show. For "As Long As You Love Me," however, he brought in backup dancers and interacted with the models while moving around a giant makeshift pinball machine.

"It's like a dream come true," said Bieber on the pink carpet before the show. "I would rather be here than anywhere in the world."

The 23-year-old model - who broke up with the 37-year-old 'Inception' actor last week after 10 months together amid reports he did not want to settle down and they struggled to see each other because of their busy schedules - insists she is doing fine after their break-up.

The Victoria's Secret model's best friend Lily Aldridge, 26, also confirmed Heatherton is doing fine and thinks it won't be long before she is dating someone else.

"Every guy I know is like:'Please introduce me to Erin!'"

Aldridge - who is married to 'Kings of Leon' rocker Caleb Followill with whom she shares four-month-old daughter Dixie Pearl - also revealed she is doing everything she can to help Erin move on.

She said: "Erin is my girl! She's my daughter's godmother, she's my best friend and she's just amazing. She is such an angel, such a star. She's the best."

DiCaprio, who recently admitted he hasn't met the love of his life yet, has wasted no time since the split and was spotted flirting with a string of models at a Halloween party in the plush Standard hotel in New York recently.

India’s Next Top Fashion Model

Popular American reality show America’s Next Top Model is now all set to debut in India.

The Indian version of the popular TV show titled ‘India’s Next Top Model’ would feature models and aspirants of Indian origin. The winner of the show will be awarded a contract with a leading modeling agency and be featured on covers and spreads for some leading fashion magazines.

American Supermodel Tyra Banks created the show’s format, and it has been adopted in various countries across the globe. The show is currently seen in around 170 countries while production is looking to expand its reach.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Deepika Padukone are reportedly in the running to host the Indian version of reality show. Both the internationally acclaimed actresses are desirable candidates for the job, though neither of them have made a debut on small screen before.

America’s Vs Britain’s Next Top Fashion Model

The Tyra Banks franchise’s current series has just reached its sorry end in America, whilst the UK version is finding its fifth’s ‘cycle’s’ feet at present. For some reason, instead of calling them seasons, or series, they refer to every new showing as a ‘cycle’.It’s a weird turn of phrase as there’s nothing rotary about the process. If it was cyclic, surely the models would end up anonymous again, back where they started, come the season finale?

I never did quite understand that.

Watching the British version whilst simultaneously digesting the original has been a disconcerting experience. After so many years, the Americans have evolved theirs into a super-slick, rapid-fire beast in which every non task-based scene is heavily scripted and edited within an inch of its life - and the presence of cameramen in their penthouse in the ‘reality’ sections suggest there are a few prepared lines going on there too. In contrast, the British version is a cheap and frail little runt-sister, desperately trying to emulate its successful sibling and failing time and time again.

So - a closer look at what marks the differences between the UK show and its well-oiled originator. And time to mark them out of ten, because then this piece will at least have some direction.

The Host

As mentioned, Banks heads up the US version. For someone like me who comes to the show blind, only vaguely aware of her persona over the Atlantic, Tyra Banks is simply an infuriating, self-obsessed berk with hair that continues to astonish. Her weave seems to become wavier and wavier as time goes on and by episode ten her wig looks like hawk-wings protruding from her temples, giving her the ethereal, goddess-like frame she desires. And she is actually treated as a deity on the show, blasting out leaden, self-crafted soundbites of pure turd - every one consumed by the starving models as though the word of God was being channeled through a past-it swimsuit model in an overlit studio.

‘Smile with your eyes’ she implores endlessly whilst demonstrating the move, pulling the expression of a cat that’s being rectally examined.

On our side of the pond, we get off lightly. Lisa Snowdon is irritating, but only in that she attempts to emulate Banks whilst incorporating a matey, ladette-show into the act. The effect, whilst painful to watch, is nowhere near as fist-clenchingly nauseating as Banks’ gurn-show. Snowdon is also adored by the models - but in a bizarrely regal way rather than as an omniscient being. This is just about acceptable.

The Judges

This ‘cycle’, the UK version has a new recruit in the mind-scarring shape of Louis Mariette. Presumably the producers saw that The X Factor had a ‘Louis’ on board and decided that anybody camp who was named Louis would fit the Louis bill. The problem is that Mariette is as feeble-tongued as he is extravagantly flamboyant. He may walk the walk, in the most camp manner possible, but he can’t ejaculate the kind of bullshit that riddles the Top Model universe. And that’s disastrous for the show.

On the other hand, Huggy Ragnarrson, the ‘top photographer’ (with the tiny ‘folio, going by the same three shots they show weekly) more than makes up for his lack of presence. With her swaying lower jaw that seems to dangle on a hanger below her shrivelled head alongside those dry-pea eyeballs, she looks she’s melting. And she’s a right bitch.

In the US Banks takes a bit of a backseat and has ‘Miss Jay Alexander’, a tall transvestite with bizarre fashion taste who takes the reins from time to time, showing the girls how to walk - something I learned to do years ago. Another man called Jay, with spiked white hair and a Jack Frost look sometimes assists with photoshoots, posing and slagging people off. Then there’s Brit Nigel Barker, a shaven headed smoothie with a grating transatlantic accent and Paulaskina Popallover, apparently a WORLD famous supermodel according to Banks, except I’ve never heard of her.

The Contestants

The American models are, for the most part, bloody good looking. Obviously they bitch about one another, fall over and fart like normal girls but, for the most part, they look like proper models. The only glaring problem with the American contestants is that the producers always feel the need to include a misfit, despite the modeling game being essentially an offshoot of the cloning industry. Thus, in earlier series we had plus-sizes included in the mix, which built up to transgendered contestants and, in the most recent series, a heavily scarred girl among the hopefuls. These sob-story contestants rarely get past the eighth week, which somehow makes it even worse.

There are undoubtedly some very beautiful girls in the UK version, but they more often than not don’t fit the emaciated-equine look that the fashion world demands of its clothes-hangers. Therefore, the majority of the ladies will never be Top Models. Therefore, the whole show is pointless.

Mise-en-scène

The UK set resembles a smashed New Look warehouse. The lighting is either overbearing or unremittingly dim. Thanks to the camera-work, the girls look either acne-ridden, haggard or green. Their penthouse is shabby. Their photo-shoot sets are always labeled ‘urban’ but look like the scene of any number of sex-crimes. Must try harder.

Across the pond, the Americans throw a lot more money at their cinematography to the point where everything looks glossy and otherworldly, like some Dollhouse vision of artificial perfection. It’s unnerving watching these hyper-real people interacting in a sterile, sexless environment, but at least they make the effort.

In July 2007, having earned an estimated $8 million in the previous 12 months, Klum was named by Forbes as third on the list of the World's 15 Top-Earning Supermodels. In 2008, Forbes estimated her income to be $14 million, which put Klum in second place on the list, surpassing Kate Moss ($7.5 million), but still well behind Gisele Bundchen ($35 million). Klum is signed to IMG Models in New York City.

The "Model '92" competition, organized by the Petra magazine and a New York Model agency, had a grueling selection process, where thirty to forty applicants arrived to Munich, hoping to be chosen as one of the three to appear on the Saturday Show of Gottschalk. While candidates were eliminated on a weekly basis, Heidi was one of the three finalists, and made the final cut to become "Model '92."

What began as a "just for fun" contest, turned into a life-altering event for the beautiful brunette. Heidi immediately signed a contract with the Metropolitan modeling agency, for a minimum of three years.

Heidi's first modeling gigs were for the Petrol catalogue. Before heading to the other side of the Atlantic, she modeled in fashion capitals such as Paris and Milan. When she finally did move overseas, Heidi found work in Miami before making the move to the highly competitive Big Apple.

With patience and effort, the work offers started to pour in for Heidi. She appeared in many print advertisements, including: Bonne Bell (which Denise Richards also modeled for), Finesse, Gerry Weber, Givenchy's Amarige, I-N-C, and she hit it big with the Victoria's Secret campaign.

In 1992 Heidi won the contest "Model 92" and after finishing school in June 1992 she desided to pursue a career as a model. Her first modeling jobs were in Hamburg, then in Paris and Milan. A year later Heidi Klum moved to Miami and then to New York, where she has lived since October 1993.

In 1996 she established the Heidi Klum GmbH and took part in developing logo. It became her trade-mark and she secure a copyright on her name also. In 1997 Heidi Klum walked the runway for the first time. It was the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which was one of the most press-heavy shows in the United States, and it catapulted her to more recognition from the public and to the next level as a top model. In summer she said yes to Ric Pipino and they were married till end of 2002. A year later, she became the first German cover girl of the "Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue". That means 55 millions of readers, and a big international breakthrough.

In 2001 he played her first small part in the comedy "BlowDry". Heidi played Jasmine, an eccentric hairdresser's model caught between rival brother hairstylists. In the autumn of 2003 she became pregnant with Flavio Briatore's child. On May 4, 2004, she gave birth to a daughter, Helene "Leni" Klum, named after Klum's grandmother.
